Def Jam Bringin It Back?
Alot of people say "hip hop is dead" (especially Nas with his same-titled upcoming album).. I disagree and believe Def Jam is rejuvenating it in a way that has people buzzing and speculating. First off, there are two very good album releases coming from the label in a week or two..The Roots album "Game Theory" is hailed by many as a great classic cd from start to finish...I do agree its one of their better albums and definitely refreshing.. Then there's Method Man. As of late, he was considered "Falling off" and the weakest solo member of Wu as his last release flopped. But now he brings us "4/21 The Day After"..which has many great tracks all over it..its definitely better than the latest offerings from Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa, which is surprising..Just check out "Say" a single by Meth originally featuring Lauryn Hill singing the hook. (now its a sample of her) Then there's the "coming soon" projects..On Def Jam's plate is a new Fabolous, the much anticpated new NAS, and then an even more anticipated comeback album by Jay-Z..The latter 2 offerings have rap fans all abuzz about the state of hip hop coming back to a time when its welcomed rather than sneered at...Thank you Def Jam.
