Review: "Game Theory" - The Roots

"Game Theory" by The Roots (4.5 of 5)

The Roots have been a mainstay in hip-hop, considered the best live concert act, as they perform the majority of their music with the use of their live band. They are constantly experimenting with their music yet staying on track to their musical roots

Their latest musical outing, entitled "Game Theory" is a godsend in the watered down days of rap music. The Roots bring forth a musical excursion start to finish that is satisfying to the listener. Many artists these days tend to use 17-21 tracks including 4 or 5 skits as filler. The Roots rely solely on musical content . Standout tracks include: "Don't Feel Right", "It's All in the Music" and "Game Theory". The final cut on the cd is in my opinion a classic and worth repeat; "Can't Stop This" is a track dedicated in memory of late producer-extroardinaire, J. Dilla. The song starts with a phone message recording giving respects to Dilla, followed by an amazing beat and chorus (by J Dilla) laced with a solid Black Thought verse.

If you're a fan of the Roots, or hip hop in its purest form, this CD is a definite add to your collection, and a definite classic amongst this year's offerings in the genre. "Game Theory" proves that once again the Roots continue to grow and innovate in hip-hop.
