Remy Ma Verdict for Shooting

Remy Ma of Terror Squad fame was found guilty of 1st degree assault in New York State Supreme Court on Thursday. Remy was 1 of 2 rappers having their day and say in court, as rapper TI was also sentenced due to gun charges. Remy's charges came from an incident where her friend took money from her purse and Remy shot her in the stomach, then claimed it was all a big accident.

From The Boombox:

The rapper, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, turned herself in last July and was charged with attempted murder, which was later reduced to first-degree assault, in connection with a shooting in New York's Meatpacking District on July 14, 2007.

Smith stood accused of shooting her longtime friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the stomach for allegedly lifting $3,000 from her purse.

The rap star was stunned by the verdict and openly sobbed while being escorted out of the courtroom. She faces up to 25 years in prison.

You've definitely gotta love the "it was an accident" defense. It may work for others like Jayson Wiliams, former NBA player who said he was just messing around with the gun that killed his house guest. Unfortunately for Remy Ma, rappers have that unfair negative stigma on them that they carry guns and tend to get heated. Sometimes their lyrics may even serve as the most incriminating evidence too.

The Grammy-nominated Remy Ma hit her fame with the Terror Squad and the smash single "Lean Back" and now looks like she'll be recording records from jail or never find fame again.
