I Am Legend Movie Review

So what would you do if you were the last person alive on Earth after a virus wiped out most of the population? That's the role Will Smith has, or thinks he has in the new movie DVD release called I Am Legend (Widescreen Single-Disc Edition). It's a sci-fi/suspense/thriller starring Smith, a German shepherd, some well-trained mannequins and a lot of CGI. The movie is set in New York City and comes just 3 years after scientists have finally discovered a cure for Cancer. However, the cure also sets forth a deadly virus which becomes airborne. It kills off most of the world's population and contaminates the rest, turning them into blood-thirsty zombies. Will Smith is the sole survivor, and survival is his daily chore as is finding a cure to the virus. He goes out into the city by daylight and returns home at night to hide out from the "other survivors". That's the basis of I Am Legend's plot. Some may find it to be too short a movie, since it runs just 1 1/2 hours, but it's got enough action, surprises and jump-out-of-your-chair scenes to keep viewers into it. Many fans of the original movie and book by Richard Matheson have already criticized the remake, but it's worth watching for the hour and a half as Will Smith always turns in good performances in Sci-Fi movies (Independence Day, MIB). Add in a well-trained dog/sidekick and blood hungry zombies for Will Smith to run from and blast away at, and you have yourself a great action DVD rental from Netflix or Blockbuster. Hip Hop Honeys - Tatyana Ali

There tends to be way too much talk these days about High School Musical star, Ashley Tisdale, so it's time to discuss yet another famous Ashley, Tatyana Ali from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Ashley was the daughter of the wealthy Phillip and Vivian Banks, and was always getting in and out of trouble thanks to her good buddy Will. Tatyana easily qualifies as one of the Hip Hop Honeys. Tatyana has come a long way since her birth in New York. She starred on the Fresh Prince show at the very young age of 11. The show had a run of 5 seasons and Tatyana enjoyed great success on the hit show. Here's a montage video of everyone's favorite diva from the show, Ashley Banks. You'll also hear a full length version of the theme song for the show with lyrics you may never have heard before. You may also recall Ashley had an episode on the Fresh Prince show where she launched a singing career despite her father, Phillip Banks protesting. And then in real life, Tatyana Ali launched her real singing career. Her debut song was called "Boy You Knock Me Out" and featured Will Smith on the rap vocals, "now she all grown up, not Ashley". The song was catchy, but according to a YouTube commentor, "this video look like they were on a budget". Ashley spoke about being signed to Michael Jackson's record label with Donny & Marie back in the day. Her other hot song "Day Dreaming" had a beat similar to the hit Lorid Tariq & Peter Gunz song that came out quite some time ago. The duo appears in the song to guest rap for Tatyana. She had another song Everytime which features concert footage in the video. Not only has Tatyana starred in TV and made her own music, she's been on Seasame Street with Herbie Hancock and starred in the music video for Nick Cannon and Anthony Hamilton's "Can I Live?" as Cannon's mother. So it's still nothin but love for Tatyana Ali! So the 29 year old Tatyana hasn't quite disappeared and judging by the above pic she's looking amazing. She was on the red carpet at the 07 BET Awards She also makes a cameo in the recent all-star studded "Yes We Can" song to endorse democratic presidential hopeful, Barack Obama. Top 5 Rapper Turned Actors?

Seeing that Will Smith has a new movie coming out, "The Pursuit of Happyness", it's a good time to examine some rapper turned actor roles floating around... 1)Will Smith as Ali - Top actor easily, he was even nominated for the best actor grammy award, showing that Smith has great acting range. He's done other successful roles including "Men in Black" (1 and 2), "Independence Day" and "I, Robot". He got his start as himself on the hit TV show "Fresh Prince of Bel Air", which still airs on reruns on TV Land now and is still one of the funnier sitcoms around. 2)Ludacris in "Hustle N Flow" & "Crash" - Ludacris is showing that he can be a very promising actor. His performances in the aforementioned movies were both solid. He hasn't had many roles above the gangsta, hustler or criminal type character yet, so we aren't too sure what he's got. He also hosted SNL recently. Despite the show's recent downhill sketches, Luda held his own. 3)Ice T as Detective Tutuolo on Law and Order: SVU - Ice plays a rather straight role here; the tough-guy detective with street sense. He doesnt really show a ton of dynamic range, but he's been successful for many seasons now in this role and hasn't been "kicked off", so he can't be all that bad. Many love Ice as the hard-nosed street style cop in "New Jack City" as well. Ice has been mostly doing episodes of SVU lately, aside from his "reality project" on VH1. 4)2PAC - Would probably be up at the 2 spot if his life hadn't been cut so short. He's been in great roles in Poetic Justice, Above the Rim, Grid Lock'd and several others. RIP to a true legend in rap and entertainment. 5)Ice Cube & Eminem - tie - Cube hasn't exactly had a hugely successful role yet. "XXX" was a letdown in terms of cheesy, unbelievable special efx and the overall plot and revenue made. "Are We There Yet?" I have not seen and don't plan to, so I won't comment. Cube was in the hugely successful movie "Barbershop" so he does show promise as an actor, so keep an eye out for better roles in the future. Slim Shady received rave reviews off this performance, his only one so far. It should be interesting to see if he gives more in the future, or if this was his "1 shot". I wouldn't be surprised to see him doing more acting and even directing/producing in the future. So can Will Smith turns in another solid performance in his latest film, opening, December 15, 2006 in theaters. He is also the most mainstream rapper of the list (in terms of household name/popularity, etc), but to leave him out of a valid discussion of the roots of hip-hop and especially its comedic side would be to ignore one part of hip-hop completely.
