Forbes Unveils Hip-Hop Cash Kings 2010 Edition

Jay-Z has topped the Forbes Hip Hop Cash Kings list for 2010. The rap star earned $63 million in 2010. The second place entrant, Sean "Diddy" Combs earned less than half Jigga's amount with just $30 million.

Just $30 million right? It's being reported that stability was key in 2010 because the economy's effected everyone, even rappers. However, these guys are still pulling in serious bank.

# 1.Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter
$63 Million
# 2.Sean "Diddy" Combs
$30 million
# 3.Aliuane "Akon" Thiam
$21 million
# 4.Dwayne "Lil Wayne" Carter
$20 million
# 5.Andre "Dr. Dre" Young
$17 million
# 6.Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges
$16 million
# 7.Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus
$15 million
# 8.Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley
$14 million
# 9.Pharrell Williams
$13 million
# 10.Kanye West
$12 million

Kanye West and 50 Cent are reportedly amongst the biggest droppers in terms of earnings. West dropped from $25 mill down to $12m, while 50 has gone from $20 million down to a measly $8 million due to less success in the past year.

One of the year's biggest success stories so far is Drake who made his debut appearance on the list at the #11 spot with $10 mill. Drake's not only got the hit album, but deals with Sprite and Virgin Airlines, plus that whole acting thing. And then there's Lil' Wayne, who was able to go up in his earnings by about $2mill despite the fact he's currently doing time. Maybe jail time really does help rap careers.

Rihanna & Chris Brown Reunite at Diddy's Place

According to the latest reports, the couple which had all sorts of controversy surrounding them are apparently back together. 21 year old singer Rihanna, who was the reported victim of Chris Brown's recent assault and criminal charges, received a call from the 19 year old Brown on her 21st b-day. This was also the same day that the horrifying photo of Rihanna's bruised face was released on the internet at sites such as TMZ.com. The duo has apparently reconciled with Rihanna's family ok with it. They were recently photographed in Miami together at a home owned by Sean "Diddy" Combs, with Brown seen riding a jetski and Rihanna sun bathing in a bikini.

According to NY Daily News:

Domestic violence experts said they were dismayed, but not surprised, to hear the pop beauty had given Brown another shot at romance after he allegedly beat her Feb. 8.

Yet they remained concerned what message this would send to the 21-year-old "Umbrella" singer's fans.

"It makes perfect sense that she would go back to him," said Madeline Garcia Bigelow, director of the domestic violence project at Manhattan's Urban Justice Center.

"The reality is that when you're in an intimate relationship with anyone you tend to give people chances."

Of course this only creates further controversy as to why Rihanna would go back to her abuser. It's entirely possible that this wasn't the first altercation they've had and it may not be their last. According to some early news programs' guests, a victim of domestic violence will return to their abuser if they feel their family may be threatened. In other instances, it's a sign of insecurity which keeps the battered woman with the abuser. Questions are definitely swirling as to what Rihanna is thinking by reconciling with Brown, and it is hoped that Brown is already entered into some sort of intense counseling if this is the case. Brown is set to appear in court this coming Thursday.

2008 MTV Movie Awards Review

This past Sunday, the 2008 MTV Movie Awards came and went, quite possibly with little hype or hoopla, but that has been their mark of the past. The show takes a back seat to the MTV Video Awards. The premise of the Movie Awards show seems like it's for stars to promote their latest flicks. It's also a time for the movies that weren't recognized at the Oscars to get some nods, and stylish gold popcorn statues. Juno's Ellen Page was one of the few Oscar caliber contenders who won an award. Otherwise, awards were given to best kiss, best fight, best "movie so far this summer" and other categories that MTV producers dreamt up.

The show was hosted by Mike Meyers and included only brief slapstick and comedy. The intro featured Meyers in a spirited dance-off against young R&B star, Chris Brown. There was no clear winner in this one. Various stars appeared on stage such as Diddy, Mini Me, Lindsay Lohan, Will Smith, and Tom Cruise who presented a Movie achievement award to the Sandman, Adam Sandler. Cruise's speech was humorous as was Sandler's guitar driven performance of "Simply the Best", complete with a video screen of his movie highlights going behind him. There were just two oter musical performances on the show, with the Pussycat Dolls and Coldplay singing their latest hits.

While some of the onstage presentations and monologue moments were funny, the show seemed to lack the great movie spoofs its had in the past. In the past summer flicks were parodied such as having Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite in Batman. Or a parody of the Mummy featuring Snoop Dogg, Da Vinci Code with Jimmy Fallon and Andy Dick, etc etc. This year seemed to lack those, with the exception of Ben Stiller's attempt to hook up the Kung Fu Panda and Iron Man for a new movie. There was humor there, but Meyers seemed to deliver very little humor throughout the show. So quite possibly MTV has turned the awards show into a platform for its star presenters to pitch their latest projects in addition to a place to entertain.

MTV's New Reality for Diddy & 50

In the tradition of Diddy's Making the Band which has spanned several seasons, MTV now has production plans for a show starring 50 Cent. According to Billboard.com, the show will feature contestants trying to do what it takes to get from the streets to where 50 Cent is. So it seems like a bit of a Hip Hop Apprentice for MTV, starring Curtis Jackson as Donald Trump.

From Billboard.com:

50 Cent's still-untitled project will take the form of a reality show where 16 competitors "compete to learn and master the skills that took 50 from the streets to the top of corporate America." The winner will receive a full scholarship to either an undergraduate or graduate business program. The show will be executive produced by Michael Hirschorn, Stella Stolper, and Chris Choun for Ish Entertainment; 50 Cent; Chris Lighty for Violator Management. On the MTV side, Liz Gateley and George McTeague are overseeing production.

MTV also greenlit "Buzzin'," which follows Shwayze and Adler as their first single is worked by the music industry. The show will feature Warren, their tour manager, and Suretone label head Jordan Schur. "Buzzin'" is produced by Suretone Entertainment and Hoosick Falls Productions, with Schur and George Verschoor serving as executive producers alongside Mike Powers. Gateley and Valerie Elustondo are the MTV executives overseeing production, and Steve Bilchik is the MTV talent executive overseeing the project.

MTV also has plans to do another installment of Diddy's Making the Band which will now be "Making the Rock Band". Quite possibly Diddy can help form the next Maroon 5 or Nickleback to join Danity Kane on tours.

See 50 Cent, Cisco Adler, Shwayze on MTV Slate at Billboard.com.

P Diddy the Hollywood Star

Hip hop producer, rapper, and businessman, Sean "P Diddy" Combs is officially a Hollywood star. The Grammy-winning Combs was presented with the 2,362nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was proud of his latest accomplisment, which he dedicated to his father, Melvin, who had been shot dead in 1972. Diddy is also the first male rapper to receive a Hollywood star.

Australia's Herald Sun had the following report.

The Grammy-winning rapper/producer was on hand for the unveiling of the 2362nd star to be laid on Hollywood Blvd, paying an emotional tribute to his parents at a ceremony attended by hundreds of well-wishers.

"Today is one of the best days of my life," Combs, 38, said as fans shouted, "We love you, Diddy."

"Today is proof if you believe, all your dreams can come true," the rapper said.

Just to reinforce the fact, Diddy is planning what's called an "I'm Famous" party to honor his latest achievement. The party will cost $2 million and have $400 goodie packs for all guests.
