Snoop Dogg's Wrestlemania Debut!

Snoop Dogg was a special celebrity participant in last night's Wrestizzlemania 24. Snoop was the Master of Ceremonies for Wrestlemania 24's "Bunnymania Lumberjill match". The match involved two of the female WWE wrestlers Ashley Massaro and Maria Kanellis battling Melina Perez & Beth Phoenix. Melina & Beth were able to pick up the win due to distraction by a male wrestler Santino Marella outside the ring. At the conclusion of the match, Santino Marella was in the ring berating his ex-girlfriend Maria who lost the match. Snoop Dogg played the role of good-guy hero, and made his in-ring wrestler debut when he clotheslined Santino Marella to the mat, then kissed the WWE Diva..The Doggfather does it again, saving the day and getting the diva! Oscars Served with Style

Enjoy tonight's 80th Oscar awards on ABC with a great drink. The music of tonight's ceremony will be provided by a flavorful band known as Pink Martini. They provide a jazzy sound and describe their invite to the big show as a "dream come true". The group is best known for their song and album, both named Sympathique which came out in 1997. The Portland, Oregon group started out in 1994 playing at campaign events, civil rights rallies and other political functions. They bring forth a combination of jazz, swing, lounge and classical and find their inspiration in movies made in Hollywood way back in the late 1930's all the way through 1964. Basically the group is like an old fashioned Hollywood Movie, "Sunset Boulevard" or "Breakfast at Tiffany's". The head of the group is Harvard alumni, Thomas Lauderdale who took piano lessons at age six, and says he found disco records many years ago like YMCA to be "horrific". The Music of Superbowl 42

Looks like we won't have to worry about any sock on the arm Britney performances or Janet wardrobe malfunctions this Superbowl Sunday. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers should make for a rockin' halftime. Petty said the band had to try to pick out the best songs to fit the time in between halves, but overall the band has had a great experience so far in AZ. Hip hop diva herself, Alicia Keys will be performing pre-game. According to voanews.com, Keys is honored with being able to perform at the big event: "It feels wonderful to be in your country and representing so many groups of people, all walks of life," Keys said. "And music goes along with that, so I think for like something that I'm going to do for the pre-show, I'm just basically going to take you by your neck (grab your attention) and demand that you watch me." The National Anthem will be sung by none other than the youngest ever American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks. Jordin is currently on the hit song "No Air" featuring Chris Brown. Sparks has NFL ties as well, as her father Phillippi is a former player for the New York Giants. So the Giants might have a bit of luck on their side after Sparks' sings. "I'm a huge, humungous football fan. So to be able to sing at the Super Bowl and I get to be at one. Star Wars Rap If you've seen the Star Wars movies (some people haven't) and are a huge fan, you'll want to check out these Star Wars gangsta rap videos. They incorporate explicit Star Wars rap lyrics over hot beats and use dubbed footage from the various movies. Culcha Candela Ey DJ

Culcha Candela is an interesting group which started back in 2001 and combines dancehall, reggae and hip hop all in one. They originally formed in Berlin by founding members Jonny Strange, Itchyban and Lafrotino, all singers. They've been joined by singers Larsito, Mr. Reedoo, Don Cali and DJ Chino con Estilo. Due to the mixture of heritages in the 7 person group they offer lyrics in German, English, Spanish and Patois. They are currently signed to the Universal Music label. Culcha Candela's latest popular song is called Ey DJ and has climbed as high as #7 on the German music charts. It comes from their 2007 album Culcha Candela. Check out the YouTube video here. 2 Dogs Walk into an Airport

It seems like a bit of a fizzle broke out on the way through the air pizzle. Rapper Snoop Dogg and his entourage were in the UK airport just trying to have a good time. Snoop was hamming it up with kids showing them dance moves, including the Crip walk. He also was chillin in a Toy Store with a future Scott Storch playing the toy Xylophone. For some reason there was some hatin going on at the departure Gate with a bunch of cops and a lot of pushing. Last thing you want to do is rile up a Dogg. Check out the TMZ video of all the fun here. Speaking of Dogs, that other Dog, the Bounty Hunter Duane Chapman made a return trip to the Los Angeles airport as seen here. This dog was a bit more quiet and reserved at the airport, as he's dealing with the controversy of his use of the "N" word in a taped conversation with his son, Tucker. His Bounty Hunter show has been yanked off the air on A&E. Duane Chapman will appear on Larry King Live this Wednesday on CNN. Speaking of the N word, Nas has named his controversial new album that, and MTV.com decided to take a historic look at past rap albums with the N word.

No rapper Diddy won't be starring in a sequel, prequel or new version of "Gladiator", he just rocked the costume at a Halloween Party (pictured above, courtesy of Woonq blog). Halloween may be over but the pictures of the hot and creative costumes adults and celebrities wear keep rolling in on the internet. Amazon.com Now Sells MP3's

Most people tend to enjoy shopping at and buying MP3 music from the mega-popular iTunes Store Music. It's a great place to pick up top quality music from your favorite artists, then download with a click and transfer to iTunes or your iPod. The major problem with iTunes MP3's is that they aren't really MP3's though. Instead, they are copy-protected and basically set up so you can only enjoy them on your iPod, iTunes, or if you burn them onto a compact disc. Now Amazon.com has stepped into the digital download market and is offering MP3's for purchase. They have over 2 million songs available and get most new albums just like iTunes does. Songs range in price from 89 cents to 99 cents, and albums range from $5.99 to $9.99. The beauty of the Amazon MP3's is that they are actually MP3's, and they don't use DRM (Digital Rights Management). This means the songs you buy and download from Amazon can be transferred to any of your portable music players or listened to on most of your media player software. Many people may not yet be aware that Amazon has started with this, but it appears some albums were even $1 cheaper than they are on iTunes, and you'd get full use/enjoyment of the MP3's. Meet Midget Mac..

The VH1 reality show "I Love New York" is a spin-off of the popular dating elimination show "Flavor of Love" which starred Flavor Flav. Even though Flav dumped New York on the final show, she had enough popularity to get her own show of the same style. On her show, her mother is part of her judging panel so that she can eventually choose the man of her dreams to share romance with. The show has entered it's 2nd season with a whole new batch of males for NY to choose from. The current show featured about 20 male contestants including lawyers, entrepreneurs, businessmen, former NFL Players and yes, even a hype little person. "Midget Mac" is the show's resident small guy standing at just 4 feet tall. Mac is also no stranger to being foul mouthed either, in the tradition of former Geto Boys rapper, Bushwick Bill. During interviews on the show the camera shows his head at the bottom of the screen to prove he's smaller. New York took a liking to him on the first episode, but her mother warned her if she chose him she would kill New York. Midget Mac managed to survive the first elimination ceremony and received a chain. New York chose him to stay in the home due to the fact he made her laugh so much during an opening night mixer. New York's mom was not happy with this decision to say the least. Even if Mac doesn't win this competition, it wouldn't be surprising at all to see him get the next spin-off show where he chooses his love interest from the likes of hip hop honeys, video girls and other fine women. BET, VH1 or MTV would be wise to pick that up. Nick Cannon's Ambition

Gotta give Nick Cannon credit. He's still hustling and trying to get a hit show going on MTV. His latest attempt is "Short Circuitz", a sketch comedy show on MTV. It's apparent that his previous effort "Wild'n Out" just wasn't doing it. That show had it's moments, with some hot performances and a few funny lines or jokes here or there, but overall it was a very bad rip off of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" The latest show is a bit funnier, and there is one actor in particular who does some great rapper impersonations. His impersonation of Jay Z in a sketch "The Anatomy of Dr Jay" seriously had me convinced when they showed the video by itself on MTV. I was fooled and at first thought the Jay Z video looked low budget, but the beat was hot. Turned out it was a spoof, but he's dead on. He also did a sketch with various rapper impersonations such as Russell Simmons, DMX, Jay-Z, and Diddy for a cause called "RACS", Rappers Against Child Support. So you can't blame Nick Cannon. RIP James Brown 1933-2006

The hardest working man in show biz. The Godfather of Soul, and Funk. The most sampled man in hip hop. James Brown has passed away on Christmas day, a day of giving, and none has given more to music, hip-hop, showbusiness and life than James Brown. He was said to still be doing performances and expected to appear on a New Year's eve show. He has a long resume of hit songs (over 100), and numerous albums released (over 50). Brown was born on May 3, 1933, making him 73 years old on his passing. His contributions and influences to music are unparalleled today. If you listen to many of your favorite rap songs, you're bound to hear a James Brown sample, whether it's his beat or his voice, its undeniable that he has been sampled like no other. Everybody from Ice Cube to De La Soul to Massive Attack and Public Enemy has used his work or interpolations of it on their tracks. In a Rolling Stone piece written by Beastie Boys producer Rick Rubin, Rubin says: "The first big record in hip-hop that used a Brown sample was Eric B. and Rakim's "Eric B. Is President." That opened the floodgates for people to sample Brown. I can't remember ever using a James Brown sample on my early records with LL Cool J or the Beastie Boys, but I wanted to make records that felt as good as Brown's, and I didn't want to do it by sampling or copying him." Reality MTV

MTV has two newer reality shows (when will they be changing to R-TV?), in "Rob & Big" and now tonight's premier of "24/7". Both are interesting and might provide some entertainment.. "Rob & Big" seems like the brainchild of rapper Lupe Fiasco, in that its got parts hip-hop, parts skater. It features Rob Dyrdek, a famous pro skater (who I really hadn't known much about til this), and his big black bodyguard who they nicknamed, "Big Black". Big Black is there to ensure that Rob stays out of harms way, but from what I've seen so far, the 400 pounder is more of a punching bag and comrade then a bodyguard. The episodes have featured everything from buying a new pet, a pitbull, to trying to teach it to skate, to the duo of Rob & Big hitting up EA sports in Canada to do some video game motion for a new skate game. It's got parts interesting, parts crude, and parts mindless, but that is what TV offers nowadays.."Rob & Big" is on MTV at 10:30PM EST, Thursdays. "24/7" debuts tonight and features an "Entourage" like reality show in which several guys have banded together out in Los Angeles/Hollywood to try to make it big. You've got the musician, the player, the promoter, the manager, etc etc. It's a Real World Entourage, but could provide interesting on many levels. Not so much the silly interactions that will occur or the drama, but maybe more of the clever marketing or money ideas these guys engage in. Should be interesting to find out and may be helpful for anyone aspiring to "make it big". 24/7 is on MTV at 10:30 pm EST, Wednesdays.

Borat vs. Little Man

No contest here. "Borat" (I won't put the full 15 word long title) is now playing in theaters and is on another comedic level. You'll find enough side-splitting laughs to justify your $10 plus at the movies, plus you might even learn a thing or two about parts of our country or how people interact. Borat basically chronicles a fake Middle-Eastern reporter as he does a "documentary" about the U.S. In doing so he lands in NYC (where he pisses many off) and then begins on a roadtrip to get to Los Angeles to meet his dreamgirl. Along the way he visits many states and many "interesting" characters. Worth the watch. "Little Man", now on DVD, is a Wayans Brothers flop. It's the tale of a smaller than a midget criminal played by Marlon Wayans, who hides a diamond in a lady's purse after a heist. He and his partner Tracy Morgan cook up the genius plan to disguise Marlon as a baby and plant him at the lady's home. He then goes through all sorts of "Home Alone" or "Child's Play" like mayhem to get the jewel back and be treated like a baby. I was surprised by how low the humor was in this film. The jokes have been done in other places so many times, that they aren't cute or funny. I almost think the movie might have been funnier if they didn't use CGI and used the small actor who Marlon's face was pasted over. In watching the deleted scenes (minus CGI) this actor was funny in a Mini-me like way, but they chose a different route. A few cameos and Tracy Morgan make some funny scenes, but you can't beat Borat if you want good laughs these days. Granted, Borat may offend you, but I guarantee you'll find something to laugh about.

Respect Due - Old Soul

So often we throw in our favorite album, Gangstarr, 50, Ghost, Jay, EPMD..whoever..and neglect to realize there's a whole other genre of music that they are sampling that is quality. And that music is R&B Soul. So many people ignore the greats of the past; Some of Motown's finest; Jackson 5, James Brown, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Supremes, Wilson Pickett..etc etc. The list could go on and on. A guy like John Legend has revitalized this type of old soulful music recently, and other artists like D'Angelo and Donnell Jones have also had their hand in this. I think if you check out some of the stuff by the above mentioned artists, you'll be pleasantly surprised. You'll hear a chorus or beat and say "that's where that Ghost beat came from" (Al Green). It will broaden your musical perspective and if your an aspiring rap artist/producer, it pays to know your stuff. Just listen to Al Green's "Love and Happiness" and you'll probably recognize the beat from several rap songs, if you haven't heard it already.. I'm not one to preach, but I listen to a good range of music from rap to rock to old soul (I don't touch death metal or classical too much). But the more you listen to, the more you expand your musical knowledge base..

It appears Andre 3000 of Outkast fame has diversified even more. He now has his own cartoon on the Cartoon Network "Class of 3000". The show features Sonny Bridges, a once-talented musician who now teaches kids about the wonders of music in the world. It's interesting to see the moves rappers make to diversify these days. Smart moves to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Why not? The cartoon airs Friday at 7PM/8PM on Cartoon Network. In other news, it appears Jay-Z's "Kingdom Come" album has leaked and response to his come-out-of-retirement project has been generally poor. Many blogs seem to have posted bad reviews of the latest tracks from the Jiggaman...stay tuned...

K-Fed: A Story on How Not to Promote

Kevin Federline gets a lot of slack from the media, basically because he is believed to be riding on the coattails of Britney Spears and bringing more trouble into this world. His recent venture into rap music is a good example for people on some ways not to market yourself. K-Fed performed at the Nick Kids Choice Awards and was booed by the crowd over his lousy song and dance. He appeared on an episode of CSI as a tough street punk who gets punched in the groin by another guy. He has also appeared on consecutive installments of WWE's Monday Night Raw. On the first he dissed the crowd calling them wannabes and tried to trash talk the champ, John Cena. Cena then proceeded to bodyslam K-Fed to the crowd's delight. On the second installment, K-Fed once again tried to get to Cena, this time baiting Cena up the stage ramp so that two "villain" wrestlers could ambush and beat up Cena. The question becomes, if you want to sell albums or promote your music more, why do these sorts of stunts? I can understand it with members of Jackass 2, its part of their schtick to do dumb things like getting beat up in a westling ring. K-Fed doesn't make any sense when he does things to only cause people to have less respect for what he is trying to accomplish. If you want to sell albums go on WWE and do a tag team match with cena, or team up with the new hip-hop tag team "Cryme Time". Appear on CSI as a major record label mogul who is famous. K-Fed seems to think being hated will sell records, we will see.
