The Game's Got Guns!

First TI was busted for guns not too long ago, now Jayceon Taylor aka "The Game" has been sentenced to 60 days in jail with 150 hours of community service. The Game plead guilty to felony gun charges and has until March 3rd to turn himself in to the authorities.

According to SFGate.com, The Game offered the following:

He said, "The crazy part about this is that I've had guns before in my life. But this time I didn't have a gun.

"Because one person said I had a gun and coaxed his homies into saying that I had a gun, I'm in a predicament where I'm asking, 'Do I want to spend another million dollars to fight this trial, so who knows what jury's gonna come in and say I'm guilty? Or do I want to save my money, go sit down for four months and accept this felony they're trying to give me for no reason?'" (SOURCE)

Either way this is the sort of thing that helps sell rap records and establish credibility. Lil Wayne was also recently busted on Marijuana charges in Yuma, Arizona. TI was also arrested on gun possession charges. Now the Game can add this to his promotional strategies and concentrate on his next release.

Rap Music Lyrics - Wouldn't Get Far by The Game

Here's rap music lyrics for "Wouldn't Get Far" by The Game featuring Kanye West. This song which talks about video vixens and hip hop honeys comes from the Game's sophomore album release, Doctor's Advocate.

Wouldn't Get Far by The Game f/Kanye West
(The Doctor's Advocate)

Intro:
For you baby, I'd find you [4X]
You wouldn't get far

The Game Verse 1:
I done been around the world, been around the block
Been around hoes that f----d Biggie and 'Pac
Like Vida Guerrera, a-- took her to the top
She'll give you some br--ns you let her throw up the Roc
Let her put on your chain, she'll throw you some c--k
Picture that like Meagan Good and Jamie Foxx
Hype said it's a wrap, she still on the set
Putting oil on her legs like she Gloria Velez
She was (Eye Candy) in the XXL
Hopped off the page and on a skateboard with Pharrell
I knew she "wouldn't get far" cause five hundred dollars
can't get you that "far" how you get that "far"
And all these new video b-----s trying to be Melissa Ford
But they don't know Melissa Ford drive a Honda Accord
She a video vixen, but behind closed doors
She do whatever it take to get to the Grammy Awards
Ha ha

Chorus: The Game:
"You wouldn't get far" F-----g them rap stars
You know who you are, put your hands up ladies
"You wouldn't get far" If you kept your legs closed
"It would be just a waste of time" But you know
"You wouldn't get far" F-----g them rap stars
You know who you are, I wrote this song for you
"For you baby, I'd find you" For you
And you, for all y'all...

Kanye West Verse 2:
For you... uhh..

Pop quiz, how many topless, black foxes
did I have under my belt, like boxers
Not to brag but, if it add up
One, two, n---a that's mad n--s
Game you mad nuts, how you gon' call out all these
b-----s knowing damn well they gon' call me?
The only dream, of that ghetto prom queen
was to make it to the screen, maybe get seen
Maybe get chose by a n---a from my team
H--d so good he don't ask for a pre.. nup
Now ask yourself this question, umm
Would you be with Jay-Z if he wasn't C-E-O
Would you be with F-A-B-O if he drove a Neo
Would you ride with Ne-Yo, if he was in a Geo
Well why the hell you think these b-----s coming at me fo'?
But since they all fall in my palm, I take a trio
Yo

Chorus - substitute "mouth closed" for "legs closed"

The Game Verse 3:

I done had my share of b-----s with long hair
Short doo like Kalissa, Halle in "Boomerang" yeah
I been around the block in the Bentley drop top
In Miami Beach when Lil' Kim was f-----g with Scott
I got the scoop on Hoops, whatever the case
She'll let you spray in her face long as she Bathing Apes
And ain't nobody trying to take Beyonce from Jay
But I know a b---h named Superhead he f----d back in the day
The things n----z do when p---y sitting on they face
Stabbed Un in the stomach
She must have had a p---y like Wonder Woman, on that superhero s--t
Fly as Gabrielle Union in the back of my six, fo'
Impala, forget the double D's
I put 'em right in your face like that model b----h Takara
And she ain't win the show but she riding in that Gallardo
That's why I f--- 'em today and forget 'em tomorrow

Chorus

The Game Outro:
God damn! Ya know what im sayin?
I'm sitting back watching Kanye video
And I see the same b---h that was in the homeboy Busta Rhymes video
Then I flip the m------n channel
Checking out my uncle Snoop Dogg video
And I see the same B---H, that was in my video! Ya know what im sayin?
And then Ya know what im sayin?, to make that even mo' f----d up
I'm watching Oprah cover Hurricane Katrina
I see the same b---h on Oprah, floating away on the hood of a Camry
That was in the n---a Lil Weezy video!
I mean DAMN! Everywhere I look
Everywhere I go I see the same h--s
Don't get mad, I'm only being real
Yeah

Top 20 Hip Hop Ca$h Kings

Jay-Z Rolling Stone

(Above: Jay-Z's recent Rolling Stone cover. Interview here)

Back in August Forbes put up a slideshow style list of the richest individuals in all of hip hop. The usual suspects are on the list, Jigga, 50, and Diddy.

Here's a look at the Top 20 Cash Kings in Hip Hop:

1) Jay-Z (Recent Album: American Gangster)

2) 50 Cent (Recent Album: Curtis)

3) Diddy (Recent Album: Press Play)

4) Timbaland (Recent Album: Timbaland Presents Shock Value)

5) Dr. Dre (Upcoming Album: 2001)

6) Eminem (Recent Album: Curtain Call)

7) Snoop Dogg (Recent Album: Tha Blue Carpet Treatment)

8) Kanye West (Recent Album: Graduation)

9) Pharrell Williams (Recent Album: In My Mind)

10) Scott Storch (Recent Album: N/A)

11) Ludacris (Recent Album: Release Therapy)

12) T.I. (Recent Album: T.I. vs T.I.P.)

13) Outkast, Big Boi & Andre 3000 (Recent Album: Idlewild)

14) Lil' Jon (Recent Album: Crunk Juice)

15) Ice Cube (Recent Album: Laugh Now, Cry Later)

16) Jermaine Dupri (Recent Album: Yall Know What This Is)

17) Swizz Beats (Recent Album: One Man Band Man)

18) Chamillionaire (Recent Album: Ultimate Victory)

19) The Game (Recent Album: Doctor's Advocate)

20) Yung Joc (Recent Album: New Joc City)

The above list also translated into an hour long show on E! in which they counted down and discussed each of the choices. Many of the names on the list, if not all, have deals with advertising, their own labels, products or companies, which provides a nice additional income. It's surprising to see Joc on the list rather than Jeezy or Lil Wayne. Storch is technically the only name on the list of someone who doesn't rap, but his beats are still heavily sought after by many artists in the hip hop world. MTV's Top 10 Hottest MC's Today

First, here's the breakdown of MTV's list:

10. Jim Jones
9. Common
8. 50 Cent
7. Jay-Z
6. Young Jeezy
5. Kanye West
4. Andre 3000
3. Game
2. T.I.
1. Lil Wayne

Let the disagreement start. First off, I don't have Lil Wayne and like a lot of his songs. But having listened to rap for quite a while I can't put him at the 1 spot on that list, especially when I see names on the list more deserving. I'd put Common, Jay-Z or Andre 3000 at the 1 spot before Wayne. In fact, those would be my top 3 if that was the list I was working with.

There's some obvious names missing too. Nas is a definite miss by whoever conjured that list up. His album "Hip Hop Was Dead" was praised by many and his wordplay is always on point. Possibly this list is based on sales or who's working with people on projects now, but I'd also consider adding the names Talib Kweli, Papoose, Lupe Fiasco and maybe Saigon on there. That's the real hotness in hip hop.

My guess is this list is MTV's temperature taking of hip-hop right now, but Jim Jones has not done much lately since "We Fly High".

View the MTV list along with its criteria/explanations here.

Album Review: Doctor's Advocate - The Game

(4.5 out of 5 Stars)

"The Game is back, the Aftermath chain is gone..", proclaims The Game on his hit single "Let's Ride (Strip Club)". Many would think that in the aftermath of being kicked off both G-Unit's team and Dr. Dre's Aftermath label that the Game would fizzle or struggle on his follow-up sophomore release. The odds would seem to be against him, but the Game manages to bring his own version of Chronic 2006 that is almost as much a classic as his original release. It should remind vintage rap fans of an older NWA or D.O.C./Ice Cube style album. This is what's been missing for the West Coast rap scene.

The Game does right by choosing an all-star team of producers without Dre in the mix. Scott Storch, Swizz Beats, Just Blaze, Kanye West and Will i am all lend their prowess to this set. And if you didn't know Dre wasn't involved with this album you would think otherwise. Several songs will remind you of Dre's style, explaining why Game says he is the next Dre. "Let's Ride" for example definitely sounds like a Dre beat, despite being a Scott Storch banger (producer of "Lean Back" by Terror Squad). The album also contains the right amount of guests but still allows The Game to shine. On the track "Doctor's Advocate", Game raps to honor his mentor Dr. Dre, despite being kicked off the label. Busta Rhymes chips in a verse pleading Dre to understand the Game's mentality in having to leave the label. "Too Much" features another hot beat with whirling background music and up-tempo Nate Dogg chorus. "Compton" is Will I Am's hot production piece on which Game releases the Gangsta Boogie (making you wish Nas took this beat instead of what he got for "Hip Hop is Dead"). The track "Scream on Em" (produced by Swizz Beats) has a hype piano stomp backing it with hardcore Game verses, plus chanting in the background to make you feel like you're admist a wild prison riot or neighborhood brawl session. Then there is the Kanye contribution "Wouldn't Get Far", on which Game and Kanye trade verses about "women" in the business who are just there to play that groupie role. Kanye's beats seem to be elevating to that next level, making one wonder what he's got in store..

The Game crafts an album full of street metaphors, hard-knock lyrics and braggadocious lines that echo throughout the West all the way to the East. The only knock against him would be his constant mentioning of Eazy-E, Dre, Dayton's and crip/blood gang symbols. All in all, Game is back and can't be touched by G-Unit on this right now. I fully advocate this album as a must have in your hip hop collection if you want to feel the full effect of the West Coast, or hear how Game is bringing it back to rap.

The 24 Man Remix

Either the Game wants to show hip-hop some love, or really wants to promote his new album "Doctor's Advocate". He recently released a remix to his hit song "One Blood" featuring 24 guest rappers. Here's the rundown:

Jim Jones
Snoop Dogg
Nas
T.I.
The Game
Fat Joe
Lil Wayne
N.O.R.E.
Styles P
Jadakiss
Fabolous
Juelz Santana
Rick Ross
Twista
Kurupt
Daz
WC
E-40
Bun B
Chamillionaire
Slim Thug
Young Dro
Clipse (Malice and Pusha T)
Ja Rule

One would wonder why 1)Ja Rule appears on this after he was called out on Game's first album. 2)Why Nas is appearing on a track with Jim Jones who's been throwing dis tracks at his boss Jigga. One of the all time greatest cuts in hip-hop is definitely "Self-Destruction" and the talent roster above might just outrank the one on the Stop the Violence project.

The Game is Coming

There's a street feud going on between the G-Unit crew and that of Game & his Black Wallstreet crew. People seem to want to voice their opinion all over as to which is better, Game or G-Unit. Well with the upcoming release of the "Doctor's Advocate" album by Game this month, advantage definitely goes to the Game. Game is bringing hardcore beats and rhymes which lay Lloyd Banks' "Rotten Apple" cd to rest. 50 Cent, you have next move...

I previewed the Game's 16 track LP ahead of time, and its's about to re-take over gangsta rap. It opens with a hard, biting edge to it, Game takes no prisoners and doesn't even look back. Not a single Dr. Dre beat but packed full of original headnod beats with gangsta rap lines and introspective hardcore lyrics. Game enlists the talents of producers such as Kanye West, Just Blaze and Will I Am (Black Eyed Peas). He has guest appearances from Kanye, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Nate Dogg, Nas, Busta Rhymes and Dogg Pound. The beats knock making you feel like your stepping through Compton with Game, or standing in the middle of a rowdy prison yard with a hardcore piano beat kicking you. No sophomore slump for Game on this album 2. It will probably remind most people of The D.O.C., Dre's Chronic 2001 or an NWA album, and that's great for hip hop these days. Even though Game continues to mention red Converse, Eazy-E, 6-4's and Daytons, it would be surprising to see this album get anything less than an "XL" rating on XXL magazines reviews or 4 1/2 mics in Source.

Here's the 16 song tracklist, album drops November 14, 2006

01. Lookin' At You
02. Da Shit
03. It's Okay (One Blood)
04. Compton
05. Remedy
06. Let's Ride
07. Too Much
08. Wouldn't Get Far (w/Kanye West)
09. Scream On Em' (feat. Swizz Beats)
10. One Night
11. Doctor's Advocate (w/Busta Rhymes)
12. Ol' English
13. California Vacation (w/Snoop & Xzibit)
14. Bang (feat. Kurupt & Daz)
15. Around the World
16. Why You Hate The Game

New Songs by Nas & Game/Albums to Check

Some thoughts on a few new tracks previewed... "Why You Hate the Game" by The Game featuring Nas and Marsha of Floetry on the hook, produced by Just Blaze sounds solid. The early version is 9 minutes but will be cut down for the album release. Basically the Game discusses his woes with 50 Cent and Dr. Dre/Aftermath and why fans of G Unit might be hating on him, but why they shouldn't because it's all business. Even though the Game continues to talk about some of the same things over and over such as NWA, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, Converse sneakers and low-riders/Dayton's I think his next album will have solid sales and outperform Lloyd Banks' sophomore release "Rotten Apple".

Also heard a radio snippet of Nas' title track "Hip Hop is Dead" and was disappointed to hear the "Ina-Goda-Davida" sample was used yet again. His earlier track "Thief's Theme" incorporates the same sample. This track is more up tempo and has Nas discussing the state of hip-hop and threatening to take action against radio station DJ's for murdering hip-hop. You would think a new beat concept could be used here. Will I Am handles production for this track.

Even though the main focus here is rap/hip-hop, but I can't help but recommend John Legend's latest CD as well as My Chemical Romance. Both are solid. The latter could album of the year with its strong themes of life, death and what one does in between. John Legend's second release is not as good as his first, but definitely will please fans. Check them out for some great music.

The Game: Marketing 101

You've go to admit these days there are so many ways to market one's self, through media, that it's hard to find unique ways to do it. Granted venues like the Internet and Myspace, and traditional arenas like MTV/BET and Radio play help artists greatly, but the Game took it a step further with his recent appearance on MTV's TRL.

I didnt catch the full show but just the last segment featuring the host interviewing The Game, and then bringing out a young female fan. Apparently the girl had agreed to have "The Game" logo tatooed on her shoulder due to her extreme loyalty as a fan. Not a bad marketing idea, depending on how many people will see the shoulder. Game then proceeded to give every member of TRL's audience a free pair of his Hurricane sneakers. Not bad for marketing moves, but how painful is laser removal if The Game's career ever flops?
