2010 Grammy Awards - Rap winners

The 2010 Grammy Awards featured a Triple threat contest between Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga, with the teenage music star taking home some of the biggest awards of the night, including Album of the Year for "Fearless". Meanwhile, the Grammy show saw an interesting lineup of performances trying to stretch the limits of artistic creativity on stage. These included P!nk's cirque de soleil like performance with the superstar wearing very little and suspended from the ceiling dripping wet. Or there was the Green Day American Idiot musical performance of "21 Guns" by the band as well as their Broadway cast. Add to that a nice tribute to Michael Jackson done by Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Celine Dion, Usher and Carrie Underwood, complete with 3-D effects.

There were also a few rap/hip-hop performances, with T-Pain & Jamie Foxx doing "Blame it on the Alcohol". They had Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash come out and play his solo from "November Rain" as the track got rowdier towards the end. One of the final performances of the night was introduced by Inglorious Basterd Quentin Tarentino, as Eminem, Lil' Wayne and Drake took the stage, minus K-West. The camera caught Taylor Swift dancing to "Forever" in the crowd several times, in a happy Grammy moment.

Here's the big winners for the 2010 Grammy rap categories:

Best Rap Album - Relapse by Eminem
Best Rap Song - Run this Town by Jay-Z, Kanye West & Rihanna
Best Rap Solo Performance - D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune) by Jay-Z
Best Rap Performance by Duo or Group - Crack a Bottle by Eminem, Dr. Dre & 50 Cent
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration - Run This Town by Jay-Z, Kanye West & Rihanna

Kid Cudi's a relatively new rapper on the scene out of Cleveland, Ohio. Parte Lupe Fiasco, part Pharrell/Kanye West, part Cee-Lo, with his sing songy nature he's a unique entry into hip hop these days. He made it bigtime when his song "Day N' Nite" blew up on radio, and he guest appeared on Kanye West's "808's and Heartbreak" album. Momentum started to build for the rapper as he released a mixtape in traditional fashion, and the anticipation grew for his first solo album, "Man On The Moon End of Day". His follow-up single "Make Her Say" featured Kanye West & Common, and sampled Lady Gaga's "Poker Face". The result was another hit for Cudi on the charts. What sets Cudi apart from other rappers looking to make it big is his sing-songy style which also seems to appeal to fans of Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West and even throwback pioneers such as Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Jungle Brothers.

Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon album dropped just today Tuesday September 15th, 2009 and after listening to it multiple times over the past weeks, it's well worth the purchase and listen. Cudi takes the listener on a vivid, eery, gloomy and even upbeat journey through his mind and soul. Kid Cudi's Soundtrack to My Life lyrics opens with the rapper spitting: "I've got 99 problems, and they all bitches..Wish I was Jigga man, carefree livin'" and sets the tone for his album from there, discussing the pitfalls, words of encouragement, dark thoughts, blunted mentality, and "whatever man" attitude that he needs to survive in life as well as the rap fame game. At some points Cudi's release is part depressing nightmare over mellow backdrops; at others it's got a more uptempo, inspirational feel, taking you on a roller coaster journey through the rapper's mind. Cudi lets loose over the futuristic synth funkadelic beat on "Cudi Zone" with rapid fire rhyming skills to showcase he's more than just "sing songy". "Sky Might Fall" and "Heart of a Lion" both show the positive, inspired side of the rapper, while the final track is his ode to lighting up and going "Up, Up and Away" from all haters or critics. What Cudi does well on this first album is create a colorful mindscape of lyrics and beats which listeners can relate to all over. While he's not the top emcee in the game or looking to win that award right now, he's got the gift of introspection other rappers seem to lack.

15 tracks deep, there's no skits other than Common narrating at the end of tracks to bring you through the mindscape of Cudi. Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon is easily one of the top 3 hip-hop releases of 2009, along with Mos Def & Raekwon's latest works. Cudi doesn't let himself be overshadowed by guest stars, as Kanye and Common are the big names, while he brings some other newer rappers on board for a few tracks. The album is well worth the download or record store purchase. Pick it up, buckle up, and enjoy the wild ride through the variety of sing-songy, emotion-laden tracks of an emerging rap star's mind.

Off That Lyrics - Jay-Z feat. Drake

With Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 he features several of the up-and-coming young stars in hip hip including Mr. Hudson, Kid Cudi and rapper Drake. On the track off that, Drake helps provide the chorus which lets those who think they're trendy know that Jay's already been there, done that. Backed by a futuristic, funky Timbaland beat this was one of the first few songs leaked off the third Blueprint album. Here are the full rap lyrics for Off That by Jay-Z featuring Drake.

Off That Lyrics
Jay-Z feat. Drake

Welcome to the....future (Blue print 3)
hey hey

Find me a nice soft place to land ( I got ya Hov!)
I'm so high,
find me a place to land
(Come on now, come on now)

Verse 1:

I'm so tomorrow, the ottomans is yesterday
Which means you want time to lay
So even if I slow it down, my sound is fast forward!
I'm just a runway show,
But I wear this on my plane, these my runway clothes
Cashmere sweats they come out next year
but these my last year sweats,
And my ho's so sick,
your new chick can't f--k with my old b---h
And you know this shit,
I'm professional they know this is,
I just may let you borrow this,
This the Blueprint n---a follow this,
This what what tomorrow is,
Welcome to tomorrow, B----h!

Chorus (Drake & Jay-Z):
Whatever you about to discover we off that
You about to tell her you love her we off that
Always wanna fight in the club we off that
But you can't bring the future back
Yall are steady chasin the fame we off that
Oversized clothes and chains we off that
N---s still makin it rain n' we off that
Cuz you can't bring the future back...

Tell them haters get off me
Cris we off that, tims we off that, rims we off that
Yea we off that is you still on that
and we still makin money cuz we still on that

Verse 2:
This aint black vs white my n---a we off that
Please tell Bill O'Reilly to fall back
Tell Rush Limbaugh to get off my balls
It's 2010 not eighteen sixty four
Uh, ya we come so far so I drive around town hardtop and its soft
In my Tribeca loft, with my high brow and my high yellow broad
And my dark skin sis, and my best white mate say what's up to Chris
How's that for a mix, got a black president got green presidents
Blueprints in my white ipod Black diamonds in my Jesus piece, my god
Ah, We ain't trippin off that,
It's a Benetton ad, n---a get up off that! uh

Verse 3:
I don't give a fidduck abiddout the widday you used to move
what you used to do,
and I don't give a fidduck abiddout
the b---s that you used to screw
What your future dude?
And we don't really care what you used to say
Unless that affects your future pay
I'm on the practice field runnin two a day
So I don't drop the ball when it's through my way
So I don't give a fidduck abiddout
the s--t that you probably did, who you probably is
The only time I deal in past tense, is I'm past rims and past tints
If you drivin' it, I drove it,

Jay-Z Blueprint 3 Preview on MTV's The Leak

September 11th, comes 10 days early as MTV has a full album preview of the upcoming Jay-Z album "Blueprint 3" which features his hit tracks "DOA (Death of Autotune)", "Run this Town" and the newest song leaked on the net featuring Drake, "Off That". It seems on this album Jay-Z has gone for a more experimental and definitely crossover sound to appeal to a range of fans. On American Gangster it was straight Jay, just like back in the day. So this album might be closer to Kingdom Come than the original Blueprint.

Tracklist for Blueprint 3:

01. What We Talkin' About featuring Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun (4:03)
02. Thank You (4:09)
03. D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune) (4:15)
04. Run This Town featuring Rihanna and Kanye West (4:27)
05. Empire State of Mind featuring Alicia Keys (4:36)
06. Real as It Gets featuring Young Jeezy (4:12)
07. On to the Next One featuring Swizz Beatz (4:16)
08. Off That featuring Drake (4:06)
09. A Star Is Born featuring J. Cole (3:46)
10. Venus vs. Mars (3:10)
11. Already Home featuring Kid Cudi (4:29)
12. Haters featuring Kanye West (2:31)
13. Reminder (4:18)
14. So Ambitious featuring Pharell (4:12)
15. Young Forever featuring Mr. Hudson (4:11)

So far an early favorite is "Empire State of Mind" which praises Hov's homestate of NY. It features songstress Alicia Keys, and probably one of the best beats on the album so far featuring a funky piano in the back. Could easily see this one becoming a hot, chart topping single, if Hov chooses to unleash it. "Now you're in New York, these streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you...let's hear it for New York" Alicia sings in the boisterous and upbeat chorus. The final track featuring Mr. Hudson is yet another sample laced crossover style track with the "Forever Young" chorus you're likely to recognize. That may be a single, but who knows right now.

Enough about the album, judge for yourself based on the preview at MTV's The Leak.

Also, see Newsday's article discussing the upcoming NY benefit concert Jay is doing.

Jay-Z keeping Blueprint 3 Safe

jay-z billboard magazine cover 2009
Jay-Z on the 7/25/09 Billboard mag

According to a source close to Jay-Z, the rapper is taking no chances with his new material for Blueprint 3. Jigga will be hand delivering his material to his label over in London, because he's worried about potential leaks of tracks to the internet. Jay doesn't want all his songs out online prior to Blueprint 3's release on September 11th, 2009. Jay will arrive in London sometime next week.

According to Yahoo News UK-Ireland:

The source says, "Every time a big artist has new music ready these days someone somewhere is always keen to pinch it and whack it on the internet. Jay is very protective and smart and doesn't want fans to hear tracks which aren't quite right. He wants to give the record to the label in the UK and see which songs go down best to give him ideas about single releases."

So far, just two tracks have really been released from the upcoming third part in the Blueprint trilogy. "D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)" came out just a few months ago, and just days ago "Run this Town" featuring Rihanna and Kanye West debuted on the radio, and went viral online. Previous cuts by Jay-Z, "Brooklyn Go Hard" and "Jockin' Jay-Z" are reportedly not part of the new Blueprint 3 album.

Jay-Z appears on the cover of the July 25th, 2009 Billboard magazine (pictured above). Read the article "He's a Business Man" at Billboard.com for the complete story on Jay-Z's busy life and thoughts on his new album process.

Quantcast

Throw it in the Bag Remix Lyrics
by Fabolous feat. Drake

Intro:
You know we had to go shoppin' one more time right?
I think we forgot somethin' he he
Just throw it in the bag! uh!
uh uh uh uh uh

She all on me cuz all I do is,
Ride around the Bentleys coups
Got no need she got me,
Buying her them Fendi shoes
All we do is shop until we drop,
All all all all all we do is shop until we drop,

I said if you gettin money
if you gettin' money
if you gettin' money
Just throw it in the bag!

Verse 1 (Fabolous):

Just throw it in the bag, I just throw it in the bag
I don't know how much it cost, but I know this b---h is bad
Walk up to that register like I dont know it had a tag
I'm no liar I don't front
Ima buy her what she want
Cuz a queen supposed to get what she desire, what she want
If my lady like to eat then Ima buy a restaurant
Since she such a boss b---h, she can hire who she want
She can help me blow this green, she the fire to my blunt
You can try her if you want, but it's gonna cost you
Bags with the jose jeans with the horshoes
She can go to work or chill like a boss do
That n---a ain't your ---- unless he emboss you
They say ain't trickin' if you got it, they lyin
I say it ain't trickin if you got her she mine
You n-----s ain't gotta worry bout her she fine
My player card's approved, you n----s been declined

CHORUS:
She all on me cuz all I do is,
Ride around the Bentleys coups
Got no need she got me,
Buying her them Fendi shoes
All we do is shop until we drop,
All all all all all we do is shop until we drop,

Fabolous:
if you gettin' money!
if you gettin' money!
if you gettin' money!
Just throw it in the bag!

Verse 2 (Drake):
Uh uh, we up in Barneys goin dumb again
Everytime we leave the manager say "come again"
Honestly she probably old enough to be my momma friend
She just want that feeling back, I make her feel young again,
If a card decline you need to check that s--- and run again,
They don't give you limits when you keep that money comin in,
Yea, just throw some paper round a magnet,
As soon as it approve you can throw it in the bag...
She mature to say the least,
And if I get a car then she make sure to pay the lease,
She used to have a husband until she found out that he cheats,
Then she filed for divorce and watched her bank account increase,
She got a condo with a view,
A house with a pool,
A son that's 26 but he just went away to school,
She always show me pictures of him, tell me that's her baby,
I hope that I never meet him, that n----a look cra-azy
And I be spendin' all my lady chips,
She got me feelin' like my daddy back in 86'
She said she lucky that she his,
No I'm lucky that you mine baby, you know what it is....

CHORUS:
She all on me cuz all I do is,
Ride around the Bentleys coups
Got no need she got me,
Buying her them Fendi shoes
All we do is shop until we drop,
All all all all all we do is shop until we drop,

Fabolous:
if you gettin' money!
if you gettin' money!
if you gettin' money!
Just throw it in the bag!

Verse 3 (Fabolous):
Shorty so nice, I don't mean polite,
When I say nice, I mean looking right,
And you can't put a price on somethin' lookin right,
If that ask how much, tell em what it's lookin like
I make everything I buy fly, just like I'm bookin' flights
If I want it Ima get it, that should not be tooken light,
And it's on everything I got a cra-zy la-dy,
So money ain't a thing, Jay-Z J-D,
Like Jay-Z's lady is Beyonce n'
To the point when your woman goes be-yond payin'
Watchin me ball is like Le-bron playin'
I'm in those Louis shoes you might see Kanye in,
They say it ain't trickin' if you got it, they lyin,
I say it ain't trickin', if you got her, she mine,
You n-----s ain't gotta worry bout her she fine
My player card's approved, you n----s been declined

CHORUS:
She all on me cuz all I do is,
Ride around the Bentleys coups
Got no need she got me,
Buying her them Fendi shoes
All we do is shop until we drop,
All all all all all we do is shop until we drop,

Fabolous:
if you gettin' money!
if you gettin' money!
if you gettin' money!
Just throw it in the bag!

Beasties cancel Concerts, Push Back Hot Sauce Album

Unfortunate news has recently come in from the Beastie Boys camp. The group has decided to cancel several of their upcoming concerts and push back their album release for "The Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1" as well. This news comes due to Adam "MCA" Yauch's discovery that he has a small lump on the side of his throat which is a form of cancer. Yauch will require surgery next week for the removal of the problem, and then radiation treatment. Adam "MCA" Yauch and AdRock talk about it in the video below, assuring fans the problem is not in a place that will affect his voice, and it's very localized so it shouldn't cause more problems. He adds that in most cases they are able to completely eliminate the issue. The Beasties issue a full apology to any fans who were excited for the upcoming shows as well...

Wishing MCA an uncomplicated surgery as well as a speedy recovery from this unfortunate health situation...

Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part 1

Well into their forties hip-hop/alternative band The Beastie Boys (Ad Rock, MCA and Mike D) aren't done making music quite yet. They're about to release their eight studio album with an upcoming record called "Hot Sauce Committee Part 1", scheduled for release on September 15th, 2009. The track "Too Many Rappers" was recently debuted which features Nas as a guest emceee. Check it out on the YouTube still video below. Also on the album will be relatively new sensation, Santigold.

The Beasties will also be releasing some reissues including 1998's Hello Nasty as a two-CD or vinyl box set. The last album we heard from the trio came in 2007 but was only instrumental form on "The Mix-Up". 2004 provided their last full album with rapping on it, "To the 5 Boroughs" so this new one will be a much-welcomed treat for fans.
